Everything will be in Mandarin with some explanations in Japanese or English when needed. So, as long as you can speak some Mandarin, regardless of your nationality and background, come join us to polish your Mandarin power and to be empowered by others.

Intermediate Chinese Lessons

Intermediate Chinese lessons are for students who already have some basic fundamentals of the Chinese language. They are able to initiate and hold simple conversations in Chinese, such as talking about their daily life, hobbies and asking and answering simple questions. They should also be able to write simple sentences and have basic knowledge of Chinese grammar rules.

Intermediate Chinese lessons will be focusing more on listening and conversational skills in order to achieve better fluency in the language. Lessons will be conducted mainly in Chinese to reduce dependency on Japanese or English. Materials include recommended  textbook, workbook, MP3, online materials, and readings from various sources.

中国語レッスン（中級）は中国語の基本・基礎がすでにある生徒向けのクラスです。中国語で日常生活や趣味ついて話し、また簡単な質問をしたり、答えたり等、中国語で簡単な会話ができます。また、簡単な文章が書け、中国語の文法規則の基礎知識がなければなりません。 中級クラスではより流暢になるためにリスニングや会話のスキルに重点的に取り組みます。授業は日本語や英語に頼るのを減らすため、おもに中国語で行います。教材には推奨テキスト、ワークブック、MP3、オンライン教材、さまざまなソースから抜粋された読み物を含みます。

I have been taking Chinese lesson and Business English lesson since beginning. The lesson is taken in a relaxing and comfort environment, which enables me to focus on learning and practicing with other learning mates. I was a newbie and unknowledgeable to Chinese language at the very beginning, but thanks to the teacher’s effective teaching, I have been able acquire basic communication skills and pass the elementary level of Chinese language.As well, in response to my request of enhancing my English skills in a business field, he also conducts a Business English lesson personally with me once a week. In this lesson, I study effective negotiation skills when demanding a salary raise or making a business deal, and self-presentation skills at a job interview. Although the lesson itself has just started lately, I have already studied an amount of practical and useful skills and knowledge in a business scene.

私は当初より中国語レッスンとビジネス英語レッスンを受講してきました。レッスンは落ち着いた雰囲気の中行われており、他の受講生と共に学び練習するのに集中して取り組むことができます。最初の頃私は初心者で中国語についての知識も殆どありませんでしたが、唐さんの効果的な教えにより基礎の会話スキルを身につけ、初級レベルをクリアすることができました。

また、ビジネス世界での英語スキルを強めたいという私の希望に応じて、毎週1回ビジネス英語のレッスンを開いて頂いています。レッスンでは昇給や取引の際の効果的な交渉術や面接時の応対などを場面ごとに勉強しています。レッスン自体は最近始まったばっかりですが、ビジネスの場面において多くの有用且つ実用的なスキルや知識を既に学んでおります。

私は聴力障害者ですが、中国語の勉強を始め、５ヶ月目になります。

最初、中国語の勉強ができるかどうか不安でした。でも、唐先生は、ユーモア、冗談など言って楽しい先生です。聾者達のために日本手話を勉強したり、プロジェクターを使用したり、黒板に説明を書いてくださるので、先生の熱心さが、こっちに伝わってきます。

私にとってやり甲斐のある中国語のレッスンです。これからも、中国語の楽しさを聾者に伝えて行きたいです。

Chinese Lessons for Deaf Japan

On 10th January, We Are One conducted the first trial Chinese lesson for members of Deaf Japan. Deaf Japan is a non-profit organizattion that provides a platform for the deaf community to gather with various events and activities. It is headed by Danny who is a CODA (children of deaf adults). One of his goal for Deaf Japan is to make sign language cool. 

It is a very interesting and fresh experience for me to conduct Chinese lessons for deaf students. Although they may not be able to hear, they are nonetheless interested to know the pronunciation of the Chinese characters. Hence, I need to give the Katakana together with the pinyin on top of each characters. 

I must admit that I do not know any sign language at all, and I thought I could only give the explanation by writing in Japanese on the white board. However, to my surprise, I was able to communicate a fair bit by using hand signs and body languages, despite that fact that they were not at all correct sign languages. Luckily, one of the students, Yamawaki-san who is non-deaf was able to help me communicate with the rest as an interpreter.

By the end of the session, I was glad that not only the students had gained some knowledge about Chinese from me, I also picked up a couple of sign languages such as saying "thank you" both in Japanese and American sign languages. 

The Chinese lesson at Deaf Japan is held every Monday from 8pm to 9pm. Whether you are a deaf person or not, you are welcome to join us. After all, We Are One aims to bring people of difference background together, recognize, share and learn from one another. I must say that

We Are One has moved another step forward towards the We Are One Spirit.

1     Focus on useful everyday Mandarin that native Chinese speakers use, including slangs.

2     Covering topics such as newest trend, technology, traditional & pop culture, global issues which are up-to-date and interesting, enable students to gain additional knowledge besides the language.

3     Student participation during lesson to enhance effective learning.

4     Additional materials including notes, recommendation to online materials etc.

About the Instructor

Tong (Chinese)

Tong is a Singaporean Chinese whose native languages are English, Mandarin and Cantonese. He runs Chinese courses (www.djhchinese.com) in Singapore. He has been teaching English and Mandarin for the past 7 years in both Singapore and Japan. His students include expatriates from all over the world as well as Japanese. He is experienced in teaching adults to help them achieve their various language objectives such as for work and business. He is also passionate in teaching young children, allowing them to enjoy lessons in a fun filled setting while setting a strong foundation for the language. Tong considers himself a cosmopolitan as he has obtained his JLPT 1 10 years ago in high school and attained intermediate level French after studying in France for over half a year. Tong is also the Program Director of We Are One International (www.weareonejapan.blogspot.com), a volunteer group that connects international-mined people in Kansai by organizing various events and activities every month.

講師について

Tong （唐、トン）中国語

中国系シンガポール人。母語は英語、北京語、広東語の３つ。過去７年間シンガポールと日本で英語、北京語を教える。今まで教えてきた生徒は１つの国にとどまらず、世界各地から来た人達と様々である。教えてきた生徒は大人が多く、彼らの仕事やビジネスに必要な語学力を高めるために貢献してきた。また子供の生徒に教えることも積極的で、子供の時期に重要な語学の基礎を築くためにも楽しさあふれるレッスンを行ってきた。高校生の時に日本語検定１級を取得、また約半年フランスを勉強した後、中級レベルのフランス語も習得する等国際的である。最近ではWe Are One International (www.weareonejapan.blogspot.com)という、関西を中心に国際的なマインドを持つ人々をつなぐために様々なイベントや活動を行う、ボランティアグループのプログラムディレクターとしても活動している。
